Concurrent Therapy Calculator
Use this calculator to find your total time worked and finish time from your billable minutes and productivity target — then adjust for concurrent or group therapy if your facility credits that time differently.
Concurrent and group therapy change how minutes get counted toward your productivity target, and the rules aren’t the same across every setting.

How to calculate productivity with concurrent minutes
The base productivity calculation doesn't change — see the full breakdown on how to calculate productivity:
Productivity % = Billable minutes ÷ Total time worked × 100
Total time worked = Billable minutes ÷ (Productivity % ÷ 100)
Depending on your facility's crediting model, concurrent or group minutes might:
- Count in full for each patient (minutes × number of patients)
- Get split evenly across patients (minutes ÷ number of patients)
- Use a custom facility-specific factor
Whichever model applies, the adjusted billable minutes get run through the same productivity formula as any other billable time. If your billing is tracked in units rather than minutes, convert first using a billing units calculator
Productivity group vs. concurrent therapy
This is one of the most common points of confusion when calculating therapy productivity, so it's worth separating clearly:
- Concurrent therapy — one therapist treats two patients at the same time, each doing a different activity, typically within line-of-sight of each other.
- Group therapy — one therapist treats two to six patients at the same time, all doing the same or a similar activity.
The distinction matters because concurrent and group therapy are billed, capped, and credited differently depending on the payer and setting.
How to calculate productivity % with mixed session types
To calculate your productivity percentage on a day that includes individual, concurrent, and group sessions:
- Total your individual billable minutes as usual.
- Apply your facility's crediting model to concurrent/group minutes (full, split, or custom factor).
- Add the two together to get your adjusted billable minutes.
- Divide adjusted billable minutes by total time worked, and multiply by 100.
