What Exactly Is a Productivity Calculator?
A productivity calculator measures how efficiently a person, team, or business converts input — such as hours worked or money spent — into output — such as units produced, tasks completed, or revenue generated. The result is a single productivity rate or percentage you can track over time, compare against industry benchmarks, or use to spot where efficiency is slipping.
At its core, every productivity calculation follows the same relationship: output divided by input. What changes is what you count as "output" and "input," depending on whether you're measuring labor, a team, or an entire business.

How to Use the Calculator?
- Define your output. Decide what you're measuring — units produced, revenue, tasks completed, or another countable result.
- Define your input. Usually hours worked, labor cost, or number of workers — whatever resource is producing the output.

- Example 1 — Manufacturing: A factory line produces 1,200 units over a 5-day, 40-hour week. Productivity = 1,200 ÷ 40 = 30 units per hour
- Example 2 — Customer Service: A support agent resolves 96 tickets in a 40-hour week. Productivity = 96 ÷ 40 = 2.4 tickets per hour
- Example 3 — Sales: A sales team generates $150,000 in revenue with 750 total labor hours across the team. Productivity = $150,000 ÷ 750 = $200 in revenue per labor hour
The Productivity Formula
The general productivity formula is:
- Productivity = Output ÷ Input. This simple ratio adapts to almost any context. Below are the three most common versions.
- Labor Productivity Formula: Labor Productivity = Total Output ÷ Total Labor Hours.
- Revenue Productivity Formula: Revenue Productivity = Total Revenue ÷ Total Labor Cost (or Hours)

Common Productivity Calculation Mistakes
